Filmcrew Magazine

Filmcrew magazine covers 1-29, published from 1994-2000.

It all started when…

…a working film grip had an idea. What if there was a magazine that spoke to the film production community directly? That was written by and for them, covering the topics they cared about, not just what garnered an advertisers attention.
FilmCrew magazine published bimonthly between 1994 and 2000 by Frank R. Dellario, Sherri L. Sanders, and Peter Ndenga. It printed articles, interviews, and equipment cheatsheets geared for the film production community.

Articles ran the gamut from laying dolly track to how a swing and tilt lens worked and were written by the staff or contributing writers who worked in the industry.

History

FilmCrew magazine was initially the idea of Frank R Dellario, a working grip in the NYC film industry, in 1992. He was joined by Sherry L. Sanders who initially came onboard as a business owner and art director but eventually switched roles to that of editor and advertising sales.

Peter Ndenga, a corporate business lawyer worked at J. P. Morgan chase, joined the team as an owner and helped created the legal and business entity.

After two years of planning and raising funds from friends and family, the first issue of FilmCrew magazine was publishing in Jan 1994 and premiered at the NYC Showbiz Expo that same month.

The first issue was single color using a dark blue ink, 16 pages saddle stitched, printed by a small press in NJ. The issues grew in size, adding a color cover and a few color signatures in 1997.

FilmCrew closed down its publication in 2000 but is remembered fondly by many in the film crew community.
